Elon Musk admitted that Tesla is going to add “some additional constraints” to the recently unveiled Autopilot system in order to “minimize the possibility of people doing crazy things with it” during a quarterly earnings call Tuesday.

The planned restrictions come after a slew of videos hit YouTube showing people turning on Autopilot on curvy backroads without any hands on the wheel. This, as you might well know, is not what the system was designed for. Accordingly, things go awry.

When a Tesla rep told me at the 7.0 software debut that Autopilot didn’t need to be on a freeway in order to work, I immediately imagined such scenarios. After all, people are silly and overly trusting. Read more…
