WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Tuesday that law enforcement officials are too often “scapegoated for the broader failures of our society and our criminal justice system.”

Speaking at the annual meeting of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Chicago, Obama said that police and other law enforcement officials are not responsible for problems like unemployment, poor education and job shortages.

“Too often, law enforcement gets scapegoated for the broader failures of our society and our criminal justice system. And I know you do your jobs with distinction no matter the challenges you face,” Obama said. “That’s part of wearing a badge.” Read more…
